Brew watches
Brew turns coffee culture into a proper watch-design obsession. Colourful chronograph counters and shaped cases give the Metric and Retrograph their unmistakable moods.
The Sensei take
An espresso break worth collecting.
Brew's coffee connection reaches the actual design. Retrograph Cobalt has a marked espresso-timing interval, a 38 × 41.5mm outline and a leather strap. That gives the blue chronograph an identity you can explain without reaching for a vague lifestyle slogan.
Metric Retro Dial takes another route: a VK68 meca-quartz chronograph, expressive counters and a different shaped case. Gold & Black turns up the warmth. The espresso is a good opening line; the faces are why these watches deserve another look.
What we love: the design survives the coffee story
A coffee-inspired watch could easily stop at a cute name. Brew gives the idea something visible to do. On the Retrograph Cobalt, the marked espresso-timing interval is part of the chronograph face. The reference to coffee is there when you want it, while the blue dial, counters and shaped case give you plenty to enjoy at other times of day.
The Metric is where the brand's colour sense becomes especially persuasive. Its counters break up the face in a way that makes a small instrument feel playful. Retro Dial, Steel Dial and Gold & Black are distinct visual propositions. We love that choosing a Brew can begin with the same instinct as choosing a favourite print or a piece of furniture: you keep returning to the arrangement of shapes and colours.
That shaped outline matters, too. A collection full of round steel watches can become surprisingly uniform in a watch box. Brew introduces another silhouette, and with it another way of framing a chronograph. The appeal starts well before a conversation about movements.
Who are Brew watches for?
Design people, certainly. Anyone who notices the typography on a menu, has strong feelings about a chair or picks a camera partly because of its controls will understand the attraction. These are watches with enough graphic character to become part of how you dress, particularly if your clothes tend to be simple and you want one small object to carry the colour.
Brew is also an enjoyable direction for the collector who already has a serious diver and a sensible daily watch. A Metric lets the next purchase be about visual pleasure. It does not need to fill a complicated gap in a collection spreadsheet. The face is the reason.
You do not need to be an espresso obsessive. The coffee connection makes the Retrograph's timing interval more fun, but the attraction of a blue shaped chronograph or a gold-and-black Metric is easy to understand on its own. Pick the watch you want to look at before choosing the story you want to tell about it.
Our starting point: Metric Retro Dial
The Retro Dial is our first stop for the expressive counters and the way they sit inside the case. Its VK68 meca-quartz chronograph is part of this particular model's identity, but the face supplies the immediate pull. We would pair it with an otherwise quiet outfit and let those small colour decisions stand out. Open a close photograph: the relationship between the counters and the surrounding space is much of the pleasure.
The coffee connection: Retrograph Cobalt
Retrograph Cobalt gives the espresso idea its most direct expression in our selection. The 38 × 41.5mm outline, blue dial and leather strap have a different rhythm from the Metric. Its marked timing interval gives the chronograph a particular little ritual to offer. This would be our choice for someone who wants the café reference to be part of the watch itself, alongside a distinctive case and a strong blue face.
Turn up the warmth: Metric Gold & Black
Gold & Black changes the tone immediately. The darker face and warm exterior make a more dressed-up combination, with the chronograph keeping the watch visually lively. This is the Brew we would put beside a black shirt, a dark jacket or a brown leather bag. The colour scheme gives the same family a different social life.
How we would choose a Brew
Start with the outline, then compare the faces. Retrograph and Metric offer different shapes, so choosing between them is more interesting than simply selecting a colour. Within the Metric range, give your favourite palette some competition: look at Retro Dial beside Gold & Black and Steel Dial. Which face would you still want to see with the clothes you actually wear?
Our vote goes to Retro Dial for a first Brew. It brings enough of the brand's graphic personality to explain the attraction in one glance. Retrograph Cobalt is the more personal choice if the espresso ritual is already part of your day. Either way, the pleasure should survive long after the opening coffee joke.
