Inside Halios: The Cult of the Sold-Out Drop

May 15, 2026

Jason Lim releases little and perfects much. That single sentence explains more about the modern microbrand world than any market report. Out of Vancouver, working essentially alone, Lim has spent over a decade building Halios into the brand other founders quietly measure themselves against — not by flooding the market, but by starving it. The Seaforth is the case study. A 41mm diver that wears like a 40, with a double-domed crystal and proportions enthusiasts discuss the way sommeliers discuss vintages. It sells out in minutes and trades above retail the moment it does. That scarcity isn't a growth hack bolted on after the fact; it's a consequence of the philosophy. Release only what you'd wear yourself, and only when it's right. The lesson for the rest of the field is uncomfortable: taste doesn't scale, and that's the point.
