The story
Founded in 1868 by Florentine Ariosto Jones, an American watchmaker and entrepreneur who set out to combine American manufacturing methods with Swiss watchmaking skill — an unusual premise at the time, since the two traditions worked very differently. Jones established the manufacture on the banks of the Rhine in Schaffhausen, and that original hybrid ambition — American industrial rigor plus Swiss horological craft — still anchors how IWC frames itself today.
