The Gemstone Series We worked with our dial makers to do something many said was impossible: slicing natural gemstones down to just 0.6mm . But the real challenge was the structural “sandwich” beneath it. Each dial is composed of: 0.6mm translucent natural gemstone. 0.2mm deep layer of Swiss BGW-9 Super-LumiNova. 0.2mm bronze base plate for rigidity. To keep this 1.0mm sandwich perfectly secure, all three layers are bolted together by two horizontal smooth domed-head bolts at the 3 and 9 o’clock positions. I specifically chose smooth domed heads instead of traditional screws for a reason: I didn’t want the “messy” look of misaligned screw slots.
